I just think this is brilliant. I really want to print this up massive and stick it on my wall.
For a bit of background, basically the DUP are the dominant Unionist party in Northern Ireland. For decades after the partition of Ireland, the Unionists held total, unyielding control of the six counties held by the UK and often gerrymandered blatantly and unflinchingly in order to suppress the Catholic nationalists in the North. The case of Derry City is a textbook example, where the Protestant minority in the city received two electoral wards and the Catholic majority were given only one ward by the boundary commission.
Now this is just delightful, suddenly gerrymandering is an issue to the Unionists, suddenly it’s unfair and unjust. The irony is beautifully sweet and delicious, I’m grinning like a madman here.
